To determine if original documentation relates to a bond holding of any value, the bondholder or the solicitor representing the bondholder should contact the Government Bonds Section on (01) 224 6000, or by emailing [email protected].
If it has been confirmed that there are holdings on an account, they can be redeemed by following the relevant procedure below:
Procedure A: I am the registered bondholder on the account.
If you are the registered bondholder on the account, the value of the holding can be redeemed by returning the following:
- The original registered certificate;
- A completed Request For Redemption Form (EN/GA). This is an official request from the bondholder to redeem the holding.
- Mandate Form (EN | GA)
- A Consent Form (EN | GA) - if the bank account provided in your mandate form is not your personal account for example if you would like the payment to be made directly to your solicitor.
All documents should be returned to the Government Bonds Section, PSS, Central Bank of Ireland, New Wapping Street, PO BOX 559, North Wall Quay, Dublin 1.
Procedure B: A deceased relative is the registered bondholder on the account.
If the registered bondholder on the account is a deceased relative, the value of the holding can be redeemed by providing the following:
- The original registered certificate;
- For holdings valued in excess of €20,000 an original or certified copy of the Grant of Probate for the registered bondholder. This is required to notify the Executor(s) of the estate over the holding. Please note that upon receipt and sighting of the original Grant of Probate it will be returned by post to the Executor;
- Alternatively, for holdings valued below €20,000 only, the Executor(s) can complete a Statutory Declaration of Identity form (EN | GA) (witnessed and stamped by a solicitor) and an Indemnity for Waiving Grant of Probate form (EN | GA);
- A completed Request For Redemption Form (EN/GA). This is an official request from the Executor(s) to redeem the holding;
- Mandate Form (EN | GA). This instructs the Central Bank exactly how the Executor(s) name and address should be registered. It also provides the Executor’s bank details to receive payments, as appropriate;
- A Letter of Assurance form (EN | GA). This is a requirement for the Revenue Commissioner’s Office.
- Consent Form (EN | GA) - if the bank account provided in your mandate form is not your personal account for example if you would like the payment to be made directly to your solicitor.
All documents should be returned to: Government Bonds Section, PSS, the Central Bank of Ireland, New Wapping Street, PO Box 559, North Wall Quay, Dublin 1.
