Central Bank meets with representatives from Louth and Clare businesses

Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Gabriel Makhlouf and Director of Credit Institutions Supervision Mary-Elizabeth McMunn met with business owners from counties Louth and Clare today during a webinar as part of the Central Bank’s outreach programme.

The webinar saw business representatives from Dundalk and Ennis Chambers of Commerce discuss the issues faced by SMEs and larger businesses in the area, and it provided an opportunity for Governor Makhlouf and Ms McMunn to listen, answer questions and build understanding of the challenges faced by businesses around the country.

Commenting after the meetings, Governor Makhlouf said “I always enjoy meeting representatives from Irish businesses and today was no exception. Outreach events such as this give us an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the issues that are important to people and communities from all over Ireland and listen to how the work of the Central Bank affects their lives.”

Speaking about the Central Bank’s outreach programme, he said, “Throughout the year we have hosted a series of outreach events like this one. These meetings are invaluable for us in fulfilling our mandate. The unique perspectives offered by attendees around Ireland inform our work, and allows us to gain insight into the real economy”.

During 2020, the Central Bank’s outreach programme has included a series of webinars with representatives from Dublin, Cork and Galway Chambers of Commerce as well as a visit to Tralee and Killorglin, Co. Kerry earlier in the year.
