The winners of the Central Bank’s 75th Anniversary Student Art Competition attended the awards ceremony in the Central Bank Visitor Centre on Tuesday 22 May. Both national and regional winners were presented with their prizes by Governor Philip R. Lane.

Over 500 entries from across Ireland were judged on the basis of designs submitted for coins that were inspired by significant people or events from the past 75 years. The designs of the national winners have been printed in 3D and will be exhibited in the Central Bank Visitor Centre throughout the 75th year.

Designs from pupils in Scoil Cholmáin , Carna , Co Galway and Coláiste an Chraoibhín in Fermoy, Co. Cork were chosen as the National Winners. Regional winners were also chosen from each of the four age categories, with a total of 17 all-Ireland finalists from four regions across primary and secondary levels.

Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Sharon Donnery said: “We were delighted to welcome students and their teachers from all over Ireland to attend the awards ceremony today. Having had the pleasure of reviewing and judging the fantastic entries we had from all over the country, it was good to have the opportunity to meet with all the regional and national winners individually.

“We had an excellent response from primary and secondary school students to our coin design competition, with hundreds of individual entries received from across Ireland. Throughout the judging process it was evident that students were clearly inspired by a wide range of events from across the last 75 years, with creativity and talent on display across the designs all the way from junior infants to Leaving Certificate students.

The winning designs have been printed for display in the Central Bank visitor centre and we look forward to welcoming visitors to come and see them throughout the year.”
